When Your Aircon Need a Gas Top-up?

Singapore is a warm and humid country located nearby the Equator. Hence, most of our houses, offices, shopping malls and famous tourist attractions such as Jewel Changi Airport, Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade TheatreResort World Sentosa Casino and other attractions are also equipped with aircons. Did you ever think of how many technicians they have and how frequent they have the aircon serviced yearly? Here, we will only discuss on when you need to top-up the aircon gas. If you are facing one of the situations as stated below, do not hesitate to book a service from us.

1. When the aircon keeps on running but you still feeling warm
Out of sudden, you may find that the compressor keeps running to produce cold air, but the air being produced is still warm and the environment is not being chilled. Whenever there is insufficient or no gas in the air conditioner, it will be running continuously and try it’s best to reach the desired temperature. Unfortunately, without the sufficient refrigerant, it is kind of impossible for the aircon to reach the set point. In this case, a better option is to seek an aircon experts to come over to check the refrigerant gas and advise whether there is a leak or you just need an aircon gas top-up.

2. When there is water leaking from your Aircon
The indoor unit comes with an evaporator coil that cools the warm air blown over it. This will cause the moisture to form on the coil due to condensation. The situation is just like how water droplets form outside a cold glass of water in a room temperature. Low refrigerant will lower the pressure in aircon system, causing the evaporator coil to freeze over. When the coil melts, water overflows the drain pan.

3. After aircon inspection
We recommend all aicon owners to inspect and have their aircon service 3-4 months a year to ensure you have a conducive and comfortable environment. During inspection, an aircon gas top-up is needed when gas levels is found to drop by 10%. As mentioned earlier, a drop in gas level may lead to compressor keep running and hence increase the amount of electricity consumed by around 20%.

4. After aircon repair
We always recommend our client to engage the aircon service from professional and experience service provider. All kinds of aircon issues can lead to a decrease in gas levels. An experienced aircon experts will be able to reduce the amount of gas lost during their checking. However, to ensure the best performance of your aircon. A gas top-up is required after the aircon repair.

5. When there is ice depositing on coils
This is another reason why you need to top-up your aircon gas as this is the sign that your aircon gas level is low. When the refrigerant is low in your aircon unit, the coils will freeze the surrounding water vapour and that is why you will see the ice depositing on coils
